UPDATE, 9:05AM: Sony has confirmed that the domestic roll-out of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway has shifted to August 7 to coincide with the new international release date, which was moved from its original March slot to avoid disruption caused by the coronavirus. PREVIOUSLY, 06:25AM: Sony has decided to move its family sequel Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway back to the summer in a bid to swerve disruption from the spiralling coronavirus epidemic, Deadline can confirm. The move follows MGM, Eon and Universal postponing the roll-out of James Bond pic No Time To Die from its original launch of April 2 to November 25, which we revealed last week. Peter Rabbit 2 was due to launch March 19 in Australia, March 26 in Germany, Portugal and the Ukraine, and March 27 in the UK and Ireland and Sweden, followed by the wide international release in early April and its domestic bow April 3. Those dates would’ve seen it play over the lucrative Easter holiday period in early May. Related Story Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, Seth Meyers And Jimmy Kimmel Try To Squeeze Laughs Out Of A Grim Situation Exhibitors received notice today that the film’s global release would move to summer 2020, and Sony has now confirmed that the international roll-out has shifted to August 7. These decisions are being finalized as we report, but due to factors including the piracy risk, it seems certain the U. S. release will follow suit and land on approximately the same date. This is a late call from Sony to push the film, but its one that makes sense given that the previous Peter Rabbit pic took $235M of its $351M global haul from international territories, delivering strong returns in the likes of France, Germany and Japan. While the U. and UK box offices, the films two key territories, have weathered the coronavirus storm to date, Asian and European markets are being dramatically impacted as authorities try to contain the spread of the virus. Italy, for example, recorded its lowest box office weekend in history last time out, and this week the country has shuttered all of its cinemas until at least April 3. Other nations have been similarly affected and it seems likely more extreme containment measures will follow suit in the next couple of weeks. Today, Austria and the Czech Republic both banned indoor public gatherings of more than 100 people. Exhibitors in territories where cinemas remain open will be stung by the news, with two major titles now missing from the calendar in the next month. They will be hoping that Dreamworks Animation’s Trolls World Tour, which has moved up to April 10 to fill the Bond slot, as well as Disney’s Black Widow, will provide some salve as we head into Easter, if those releases hold.

In a sane world, today would be exactly one month prior to the opening day for MGM and Universal’s No Time to Die. The film was scheduled to be released on April 10 in North America (after being delayed from November 8, 2019) but was pushed to November of this year due to the growing threat of the Coronavirus. I’ve argued, and still do, that No Time to Die was a special case. First, it is heavily reliant on overseas box office. No Daniel Craig film has earned even 28% of its global box office in North America. Second, November is when every 007 movie (save for Tomorrow Never Dies in December of 1997) has opened since Pierce Brosnan’s GoldeneEye in November of 1995. And now Sony’s Peter Rabbit 2 has fled to August. The Will Gluck-directed kid-friendly sequel was supposed to open on March 27 in the UK and April 3 in North America. But the James Corden (as the voice of Peter), Rose Byrne/Domhnall Gleeson flick will now debut on August 7 in North America. Like No Time to Die, the UK-specific franchise is heavily tilted toward overseas box office. Peter Rabbit was one of the rare hits to survive Black Panther ’s Titanic -like steamrolling two years ago, earning $115 million domestic from a $25 million opening and $351 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. That’s a 32/68 domestic/overseas split. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway was expected to take a modest-to-moderate dip from its predecessor. Think The Smurfs 2, although Peter Rabbit was much better than the live-action Smurfs movies. As such, the overseas box office, including the currently closed marketplaces in China and Italy, were of more importance than something like Marvel’s Black Widow which could earn anywhere from $250 million to $400 million domestic when it opens here in May. "And then, I turned at them and shouted, for no good reason, 'I'm the spy!! " Yes, the current epidemic, presuming it doesn’t subside on a dime, could affect any number of major 2020 theatrical releases. But there’s a difference between “ Black Widow might not crack $900 billion worldwide” and “ Peter Rabbit 2 might lose money. ” Sony is attempting to mitigate the second possibility, as they are already in a pickle with Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot not able to open in China this weekend (Lionsgate ’s Last Witch Hunter earned $27 million in China toward a $154 million global cume) alongside its North American debut. Disney is staying firm on Black Widow (the new trailer almost proudly declared a May 1 release date) and Vin Diesel has spoken out against delaying F9: The Fast Saga, and I’d argue the likes of Scoob and Spiral: From the Book of Saw are more dependent on domestic box office, compared to No Time to Die or Peter Rabbit 2, than overseas in one specific territory or another. Moreover, the delay for No Time to Die caused Universal to push Trolls: World Tour to April 10, meaning Peter Rabbit 2 would have only gotten a week before the DreamWorks Animation sequel. With the loss of No Time to Die and Peter Rabbit 2, the month of April is turning into a proverbial desert. Yes, Trolls: World Tour could be big with the kids, and My Spy just moved from this Friday to April 17 to take advantage of the release date musical chairs, but at this point Disney and 20th Century’s The New Mutants (still dated for April 3) could be April’s biggest live-action movie by default. April is usually pretty quiet save for one comparative mega-movie. But when the mega-movie flees, well, that’s good news for the March releases. The skewed irony is that, on the cusp of my 40th birthday (April 2, 1980), we’re looking at an April theatrical slate that looks more like a conventional April from my 20th birthday. Simply put, there are currently ten wide releases slotted for next month, and they are almost all comedies ( The Love Birds, My Spy and Bad Trip), horror movies ( The New Mutants, Saint Maud, Antlers and Antebellum) and genre programmers ( Fatima, Charm City Kings) alongside the Trolls sequel. It’s remarkably close to what a pre-summer slate might have looked like before the era of year-round tentpole scheduling. Follow me on Twitter. Check out my website.

Thỏ peter 2018. © Reuters Reuters Sony has pushed the European release date of the family film "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway" to August 7 over fears of the coronavirus after it was originally slated to start rolling out abroad at the end of this month, an individual with knowledge of the shift told TheWrap. It's expected that the film's global release date, including its domestic release date of April 3, will shift as well, and we'll update this story when the change is made official. But the release date change is the second shift for a wide release film after Eon, MGM and Universal moved the 25th James Bond film from April to a release in November in order to counter the effect coronavirus is having on worldwide markets. Cinemas across China have remained closed for weeks, and Italy recently announced it would do the same. © TheWrap Peter Rabbit 2 The Runaway "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway" is a live-action, CGI-hybrid family film with James Corden voicing Beatrix Potter's iconic rabbit character, and it's a follow-up to the 2018 movie "Peter Rabbit. " That film made $351. 2 million worldwide, with just about two-thirds of that total coming internationally. The hope with the sequel is that the film would open in most international markets first. But piracy risks complicate things, and Universal recently moved "Trolls World Tour" into the Easter holiday after "No Time To Die" vacated the slot, so the shift in the U. S. makes sense for the studio. "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway" co-stars Rose Byrne and Domhnall Gleeson and features the voice work of Margot Robbie and Elizabeth Debicki. THR first reported the news of the international release date shift. Thỏ Peter 2. Th e1 bb 8f peter 2 16. Thỏ peter phần 2. Though the first Peter Rabbit movie was overshadowed by the release of Marvel's Black Panther, it was still a major success for Sony. The children's movie earned over $320 million worldwide off of an initial $50 million budget, so a sequel was bound to happen. Now, it has been officially announced that Peter Rabbit 2 is moving forward, and will be released in early 2020. Writer-director Will Gluck is returning to handle both duties on the sequel, and the original cast also is expected back. The official release date for Peter Rabbit 2 is February 7th, 2020, which is pretty much around the corner. The first movie had impressive special effects as well as a very famous voice cast, including Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, Daisy Ridley, and Fayssal Bazzi. Domhnall Gleeson, Rose Byrne, and Sam Neill are the live-action human characters. As previously noted, the original cast will reportedly all return for Peter Rabbit 2, which is great news for fans of the first Peter Rabbit movie. While the first Peter Rabbit movie was well received and did great at the box office, it still found some controversy. The film was even boycotted in certain areas for one particular joke that involved allergies. In the movie, the bunnies attack farmer Tom McGregor with blackberries because they know that he's allergic to them. He ends up digesting one of the berries and goes into anaphylactic shock while reaching for his EpiPen. The scene was labeled as insensitive to children with allergies from moms all over North America who even set up a viral campaign to boycott the movie. In the end, it didn't really matter since Peter Rabbit 2 is now coming out. The first movie introduced the Peter Rabbit character that many have known for generations thanks to the many adventures he's had in books over the years. However, Peter has an attitude this time around and hangs out with some rather rambunctious bunnies. Peter Rabbit 2 will more than likely see the war with farmer McGregor escalate even further, though it probably won't involve any attacks having to do with allergies this time around. Sony has learned their lesson about poking fun of people with allergies. Sony's Peter Rabbit 2 will hit theaters on February 7th, 2020 but isn't clear when production will start for the sequel. Adults who were initially skeptical of seeing another children's movie were pleasantly surprised when there were jokes in the movie written for them as well, leading one to believe that Sony will have another hit on its hands when 2020 rolls around. As for the first movie, it was just released on Blu-ray and DVD last week, so there's plenty of time to brush up on it before the sequel hits theaters. You can read more about Sony's decision to officially green light Peter Rabbit 2 over at Deadline. Topics: Peter Rabbit 2, Peter Rabbit.
